Spend the afternoon in the woods and the evening by lamplight.
Sit down to dinner for 16 on a 1,500-square-foot deck, then step off it into the undeveloped forest right behind the house.

The Gilded Grouse is a six-bedroom luxe cabin in the mountain woods at Massanutten Four Seasons Resort in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, hosted by Laura and Michael. It sleeps 16 and backs onto undeveloped forest. Guests spend afternoons and evenings on a 1,500-square-foot deck with a hot tub, a sauna, a fire table and outdoor dining for 16, beside a mountainside yard with ping pong and yard games.
We designed The Gilded Grouse for families and friends who want to be together, inside and out. Spend the afternoon on the 1,500-square-foot deck with the mountain woods right behind it, then come in to lamplit rooms in navy, forest and plum for dinner, games and a movie. When you want a day out, skiing is 5 minutes away and the rest of the resort is close by.
We hope you spend the afternoons outside and the evenings together.
Let the kids have the mountainside yard, with outdoor ping pong, bucket golf, giant Jenga and cornhole, while the grown-ups pull up the six red Adirondack chairs. When you're ready, step off the deck and into the woods just beyond.

Unwind on the 1,500-square-foot back deck as the string lights come on, with the fire table glowing, the cedar barrel sauna warming up and the hot tub ready for the whole group.
Stay out on the 1,500-square-foot back deck from afternoon into evening. Soak in the hot tub, take a turn in the cedar barrel sauna, then pull a chair up to the fire table as the string lights come on. When dinner's ready, all 16 of you sit down together at two outdoor tables, steps from the grill.

Sink into the navy velvet sectional in the lamplit great room, with a smart TV and soundbar for movie night and gallery walls of the great American novels all around.
Come in from the deck and settle into the deep navy velvet sectional, with the whole group around the smart TV and soundbar for movie night. Put on a record when the film ends. The lamps stay low on navy, forest and plum walls, and gallery frames of the great American novels hang all around.

Cook and dine together in one open room, where the dining table, island and breakfast table seat 18 to 20 and whoever is at the stove stays part of the conversation.
Cook together at the big granite island, with double ovens behind you and a coffee bar stocked for coffee, decaf and tea drinkers. The dining table, island and breakfast table seat 18 to 20 in one open room, so whoever's at the stove stays part of the conversation.

Rack up a game of pool in the sunroom game room, with shuffleboard, air hockey, Golden Tee and Ms. Pac-Man close by and big windows looking out over the mountainside yard.
Head into the sunroom game room for pool, shuffleboard (it plays bowling too), air hockey, a ring swing game and the Golden Tee and Ms. Pac-Man arcade machines. Pour a drink from the globe bar, keep an eye on the mountainside yard through the windows, and step straight out to the deck between games.
Sleep on a Helix mattress in every bed, bunks included. At The Gilded Grouse, a great night's sleep is part of the luxury.
